Pectin from coffeeberries on the North American market due to Self-Affirmed GRAS status

PectCof developed an ingredient from coffee fruit pulp biomass, side stream from the coffee industry that was not being used. This ingredient, called Dutch Gum®, is rich of the dietary fibre pectin and can be used as an emulsifier and stabiliser in various food applications like dairy and meat analogues and gluten free bakery products. To enter the North American food market, the new ingredient has to be ‘Generally Recognized As Safe’ (GRAS) for human consumption. This needs to be demonstrated by safety data in a GRAS dossier which is assessed by an independent Expert Panel. We supported PectCof with preparing the Self-Affirmed GRAS application for this pectin-rich ingredient from coffee fruit pulp and with providing additional information and answering questions of the Expert Panel. IDue to the achievement of this Self-Affirmed GRAS status, a new sustainable soluble fibre source is available for the North American market that can be used for various food applications.

This initiative represents a positive change in poultry care, with the aim of taking the welfare of laying hens to a higher level. As part of the 'ensure a smoke-free start' campaign, we have created three videos in which we explain the health risks of smoking during pregnancy and share practical tips from experts. These videos help healthcare professionals understand why quitting is difficult and how tobacco addiction works.
