Happy Holidays
The end of the year is always a whirlwind of activity. Most companies are looking to close their books before the end of year, while new EU legislation is either to be released or debated. In the meantime, we are still working with clients on innovative strategies and research. So, what can we anticipate for the upcoming year?
This end of year season promises a relentless surge of energy as policymakers tirelessly work on releasing legislation, implementing updates, negotiating changes, and reaching agreements. In recent months, important dossiers have been negotiated, including the Nature Restoration Law. Another highlight was the legislation concerning new genomic techniques (NGTs). This legislation introduces changes to EU rules on gene editing, creating new opportunities and challenges.
News is still to come on the EU animal welfare legislation or the legislative framework for sustainable food systems (FSFS) two very awaited legislations in Brussels and the EU.
The holiday season is a time of reunion. At Schuttelaar, we truly believe that we can find strength and knowledge through unity. By supporting companies and universities in their efforts to build long lasting partnerships, we hope to change the world.
In October, we helped launch the very first “Week Without Meat” in Belgium by connecting its Dutch founder to the Belgian agrifood ecosystem. Also this October, thirty European projects under Horizon Europe connected during the largest networking event in the agri-food sector, focusing on the digitalization of agriculture. Learn more about how we brought together these stakeholders and initiated the Synergy Days on page 4.
With the new year, we are looking forwards to new collaborations. With GAIA, the Gender Alliance for Innovation in Agriculture, we will connect different actors of the chain for more equality in this sector. On 1 December, we were in Vilnius for the Women in Agrifood summit – read more on page 6.
