In the spotlight
Engaging citizens in waste reduction
Last week, our colleagues Philipp Erbach and Wido van Drecht attended the kick-off event for the Eco Champions initiative in Pristina, Kosovo. This new EU project aims to encourage citizens and communities across the EU to reduce waste and actively participate in sustainable waste management practices over the next two years. During the event, Philipp and Wido showcased S&P's efforts, with a particular focus on our EU activities and packaging initiatives in the Netherlands. They also participated in two panel discussions, where they shared insights on waste management and engaging citizens in these efforts.
Bridging the gender and urban-rural divides
In November, Lorena van de Kolk was one of the inspiring speakers at the Women's Academy for Rural Innovation in Croatia. Organized by the European Leadership Academy, this initiative aims to harness the immense potential of female talent and create a more equitable and sustainable future. It fosters a vibrant community of female innovators who are breaking barriers and driving transformation in their respective fields. Lorena participated in the Rural Stars panel, where she shared insights from the Gender Alliance for Innovation in Agriculture, emphasizing the importance of bridging the gender gap and addressing urban-rural divides.
Delivering medical supplies to Ukraine
In autumn, Steven Odding and 27 rugby players delivered seven vehicles filled with essential medical supplies to Ukraine as part of the Protect Ukraine initiative. They participated in a rugby tournament in Lviv, where many players had not played since the start of the war, some even on leave from the front lines. The event highlighted life amid the war, with injured soldiers supporting their teammates. Steven shared that while Lviv seemed almost normal at first glance, signs of war were evident everywhere. This was a powerful reminder that even in a city striving to maintain a sense of normalcy, the war remains ever-present. Despite ongoing needs, aid to Ukraine is declining, emphasizing the importance of continued support.
